Disc golf gift guide

Looking for a gift for someone who plays disc golf? Most players have their go-to discs and know exactly what they like, so a disc picked at random rarely hits the mark. The gear around the game is a safer choice, especially the things people rarely buy for themselves. Here it is, sorted by price.

Plenty of players keep going all winter, even after dark. The MVP Lunar Module is an LED light for the basket with a remote, so you can change the colour and switch it on and off. Tri-Lit are small LED lights you tape to a disc, so it is easy to find in the dark. MVP's large UV flashlight charges glow discs so they shine bright in flight.

The Friction Glove is a glove made for disc golf that gives a good grip, even when it is cold and wet. It is sold single, for the throwing hand. The Disc Doctor Repair Tool smooths out small nicks in the rim of a disc and clips onto the side of a bag. And iDye Poly is the dye for colouring your own discs, known as disc dye. We show how in our mini series on disc dye.

For a round with friends: DiscDice are two dice that decide which disc and which throw everyone in the group uses on the hole. The Shot Shaper does the same with an arrow you spin. Ript Revenge is a card game where you can give yourself an advantage or your playing partners an obstacle along the way. And the Hive Disc Claw is a simple retriever you throw out beyond a disc that has landed in the water and pull back to shore.

€25 to €65

Friction Gloves also come as a pair and in a warm version with extra lining for cold rounds. The MVP ARM is a retriever that extends to 6.4 metres and has two heads, so it can fetch discs out of the water and down from trees. The extra large UV flashlight is MVP's most powerful, for someone who already plays with glow discs.

For the days you can't get out on the course: BIRDIE Pro is a board game where you build your own player and play disc golf around the table, for 1-6 players. Final Nine is a card game about getting your disc from tee to basket in as few throws as possible.

A mystery box is a surprise rather than a specific disc. It holds brand new premium discs that were sorted out of our regular stock because of their colour or small flaws in the stamp, at a lower price. You choose how many discs go in.

€65 to €135

The Max Disctance retrievers are made of carbon fibre, so they are lighter than metal retrievers, and they come with a suction cup head. The Carbon Fiber 10 extends to 3 metres and folds down to 35 cm. The Carbon Fiber 16.5 reaches 5 metres.

A driving net lets you practise drives almost anywhere and get far more throws in less time, because you don't have to walk to collect your discs. The net measures about 2.1 × 2.1 metres and comes with a bag to pack it away.

The TechDisc has a sensor on the underside that measures speed, spin and angles on every throw and sends them to an app on your phone. The Parsec is a rangefinder made for disc golf that measures the distance to the basket, and it comes in a hard case with a carabiner. The Latitude 64 Trainer Lite is a basket you can set up in the garden or the park and take in again afterwards. To learn more about baskets, read Which disc golf basket should you choose?

Their first proper bag

Plenty of players start out carrying their discs in an ordinary backpack. The MVP Shuttle Bag is a light backpack with room for 12-16 discs and a bottle holder. The Discmania Fanatic Go holds 14-18 discs and is made of water-resistant material. To find the right size, read Which disc golf bag should you choose?

Discs that glow in the dark

A disc is hard to buy for someone else, but glow discs are different from what most players already carry. They light up after a moment under a UV flashlight and make it possible to play in the evening and on dark afternoons. Find them under Glow discs.

For someone who doesn't play yet

If the gift is meant to get someone started, a starter set with discs, a bag and a mini is the easiest place to begin. Read Which disc golf starter set should you choose?
